Our search committee, skillfully led by Judy Shroyer, interviewed a variety of rabbis for the job of interim rabbi. Each candidate had positive qualities, but none that seemed to fit Temple Beth-El quite like Rabbi Shoshana Kaminsky. Coincidentally, Rabbi Kaminsky’s most recent position was a congregational rabbi in Australia. Unlike Rabbi Companez, Rabbi Kaminsky was born and raised in the United States.
Over her 30 years as a Rabbi, she has served congregations in Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania; Adelaide, South Australia; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Birmingham, England. She plans to continue her travels to become acquainted with different expressions of Judaism.
Rabbi Kaminsky says she has “a lifelong interest in multifaith connection,” and her hobbies include swimming, dancing, and baking.
Rabbi Kaminsky will begin serving as our Rabbi on July 1st. We plan to welcome her to the community the weekend of July 12-14. Stay tuned for more information on the events scheduled for that weekend.
Temple Beth-El looks forward to welcoming Rabbi Kaminsky to Michiana and introducing her to our Jewish Michiana communities.
