Did you know that PJ Library sends out one free, age-appropriate book each month to Jewish families with children ages 0-9? Plus, the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley regularly hosts PJ Library events right here on campus! Whether you’re a parent or a grandparent, you can sign your child up today.
If you’re new to the community, need help signing up, or just want to get to know us, your PJ Library professionals, Judy Sassler and Elliot Marino, are here for you. We’d love to join you for a coffee to welcome you and help you get involved with your local Jewish community and other families.
The Little Free PJ Library
Recently, we introduced a new “Little Free Library” destination. If you attended our community BBQ, you might have helped decorate ceramic tiles that now serve as the roof of our little library box, located just outside our back door. Feel free to visit during office hours to find PJ Library books, seasonal paper crafts, and to leave your children’s books and finished crafts. Outstanding crafts will be featured on our PJ Library book display.
Kids are also welcome to leave letters with comments or requests about future PJ Library events.
Souper Sukkah Sunday
Joint Program from Temple Beth-El, Sinai Synagogue, & the Jewish Federation
Date: October 20, 2024
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location: Jewish Federation
Join us for a heartwarming and fun-filled Souper Sukkah Sunday! This event is open to the entire Jewish community, and we especially encourage families to bring a whole vegetable from home to contribute to our communal Sukkah Soup (but please no leafy greens).
Inspired by the beloved book Stone Soup, each family will bring a vegetable from home. These vegetables will be prepared and added to the broth in the Federation’s Kosher Kitchen under SBK supervision while we listen to the enchanting story.
While our delicious Sukkah Soup cooks, enjoy a variety of engaging activities:
Paper Chains: Write family names on paper chains and connect them, symbolizing unity.
Doves of Peace: Create, laminate, and hang doves with family names in the Sukkah.
Tableaus: Act out Sukkah scenes like farmers harvesting fields.
Sukkot Song Karaoke: Sing along with Rabbi Kaminsky or the JKids Spotify playlist.
In addition to the soup, we’ll have kosher pizza from Brand “Ess” Pizza for children who prefer it, along with delicious honey cake and apple cake.
Bring your whole family and a vegetable from home to be part of this special community event. We can’t wait to see you there!
This program is made possible with support from a grant from the National Jewish Outreach Program's Sukkot Across America initiative.
