After years of unwavering dedication, Bob Feferman, a pillar of the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, has announced his retirement. While this news may not come as a complete surprise, it marks a significant transition for our community.
Bob has been the guiding force behind the Israeli emissary (shlichim) program in South Bend, helping emissaries acclimate, prepare presentations, and connect with both the Jewish and broader communities through schools, churches, and public events. His voice has been a steady source of insight and education, whether through his articles in Our Community Newsletter and the South Bend Tribune, or his appearances on local television.
Most recently, Bob’s email series, The Missing Context, has provided invaluable analysis and clarity on the war in Israel, further cementing his role as a trusted educator and advocate. As the staff liaison for the Community Relations Committee (CRC), Bob has also played a vital role in fostering interfaith and intercultural relationships throughout the region.
To honor Bob’s extraordinary service, the Federation Board has approved the creation of the Robert Feferman Israel Endowment Fund. This fund will support Israeli emissaries, enhance Israel-related programming, and assist the individual who will step into the large shoes Bob leaves behind.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Bob’s legacy by contributing to this meaningful endowment. Suggested giving levels include $200, $500, $1,000, or any amount of your choosing. Donations can be made by check (noted “Bob Fund”), by phone at (574) 233-1164, or online at TheJewishFed.org/Bob.
Let’s come together to show our appreciation for Bob’s years of tireless service.
