Find Community Clubs at Taste of Chugim
Join us for an afternoon of community & connection on Sunday, February 23

Every Monday and Wednesday afternoon, the air fills with the lively clatter of tiles and the spirited calls of “bam” and “crack” as women of all ages gather around card tables. These ladies, hailing from various corners of our community, come together to play the ancient Chinese game of Mahjong. For many, this cherished tradition has been a lifelong passion, and the Jewish Federation has become their chosen venue for these joyful gatherings.
Seeing these friends gather together inside our space has inspired our Taste of Chugim: Jewish Community Club Fair, on Sunday, February 23, from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley. “Chugim” means clubs in Hebrew, and this event is your chance to explore various activities and interests, from art and music to sports and volunteering. Connect with community members, share your passions, and find your people in South Bend!
Interest has been expressed in the following clubs & activities:
Jewish Communal Singing, led by acclaimed musician Dror Baitel
Federation Book Club, led by writer and avid reader Beth Buechler
“Best of the Fest” Jewish Film Club, curated by the Michiana Jewish Film Festival committee
NEXTGen’s Game Night, for young adults ages 21-45, gathering to play board games and socialize
Mahjong for Beginners (or those who haven’t played in a while), under the tutelage of community members Ilana Kirsch & Linda Cossman
Krav Maga with Omer Karavani, geared towards different age groups and skill levels. Learn and practice the self-defense system originated in Israel
Fiber Arts Club, where friends can gather to chat and craft with yarn, knit, crochet, or whatever fiber-based project they are currently working on
“Have You Tried This?” Recipe Club, organized by Judy Sassler, where friends gather to share kosher recipes, and learn new cooking techniques
Philosophy Club, a space for anyone who enjoys critical thinking, intellectual exploration, and engaging discussions with like-minded individuals, led by Dr. Louise Williams
And so much more!
