Eclipsing Expectations: Insights from our PJ Library Professional
Judy Sassler reflects on her experience at the 2024 PJ Library International Conference.
Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the PJ library International Conference in Springfield, Massachusetts.
I had a great time meeting other PJ Library professionals from small and big Federations from across the United States and around the world, including the wonderful staff of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, who make PJ Library possible.
We started our conference by going outside to the beautiful courtyard of the hotel and witnessing the solar eclipse--the perfect start to an amazing experience that took place over the next two days. Throughout the conference, I attended so many exciting classes that brought me tools, ideas, knowledge, and experience.
I met the author Hanoch Piven, who provided a perspective on creativity in our crafting eye and mindset. I sat down at a table with six Russian women, and we created our unique project using the piles of materials provided to us and different perspectives.
I also attended a program called “Bringing PJ Library Stories to Life,” led by Jewish musician Rick Recht and his talented team, helping us sharpen our skills when talking to children, adding more “flavor” to our stories, and engaging with positive energy. I’m definitely excited to use these tools when creating new programs.
I’m excited to continue evolving as a PJ Library Professional for our Jewish community alongside my colleague Elliot Marino.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our events and helping you in any way with resources from our PJ Library.
