As we all know, Israel is going through a difficult time with a heated domestic debate over the issue of judicial reform. Out of concern for the future of Israel, on February 21st the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) took the unprecedented step of delivering an open letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu and opposition leader Lapid urging compromise while preserving the independence of the Supreme Court. On March 15th, a delegation of 30 Jewish Federation leaders flew to Israel to express their concerns and issued this joint statement from Federation leaders.
Here is a link to an excellent resource from the American Jewish Committee (AJC) to help you understand the complex issues involved in judicial reform. And below are links to Israeli English language news websites that present a wide variety of opinions.
If you would like to take action and express your opinion on this issue, here are the email addresses of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, and Yinam Cohen, Consul General of Israel to the Midwest. You can feel free to use language of the JFNA, AJC, and other resources, to craft your own message.Â
To email Ambassador Herzog write:Â Cos@washington.mfa.gov.il. In the subject line, write:Â Attention: Ambassador Michael Herzog. I suggest you CC your email to the Consul General of Israel to the Midwest, Yinam Cohen at cg@chicago.mfa.gov.il.
Sincerely,Â
