Pat McGann Shares an Important Announcement Impacting our Local Jewish Community

We are very excited to announce to the community that we will be improving our taharah (preparing the body for burial) facilities by moving them to our 2313 E. Edison Rd. at our Ironwood location, less than a mile from our current one at 435 S. Ironwood. We are totally remodeling the space needed by the washers to better serve their needs and to make their job easier as they perform the ancient rituals of washing and dressing of the deceased entrusted to our care.

Our Ironwood location has a pending sale to the Potawatomi Zoological Society Foundation for the Foundation and executive offices of the Zoo, as I understand it. They also are excited, so it is a great move and a win-win for everyone involved.

I grew up two blocks from Sinai Synagogue, and as a result, I had many Jewish neighbors and friends with whom I played as a child. When I purchased the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home twenty years ago, during the vetting process by the rabbis and other members of the Jewish faith, I told them I grew up playing with dreidels and eating matzos.

It has always been a goal of mine to be able to serve my many friends in the Jewish community, and I consider it both a privilege and an honor to do so with my very good staff members during the most difficult times in their lives. If we can lessen their burden even just a little bit, we feel we have accomplished our goal. The Jewish community has been very loyal to me over the years, and my staff and I take that responsibility very seriously. We will always do everything in our power to do exactly what the families want and strictly observe all pertaining laws and traditions.
