A Deeper Calling
Jordan Price joins the Jewish Federation as Director of Programming.
It’s a true honor to be writing my first piece for Our Community Newsletter. As I step into this new role as Director of Programming with the Jewish Federation, I want to take a moment to introduce myself, share a bit about where I’ve been, and offer a glimpse of what I hope we can build together.
Before returning to South Bend, my home was in the ancient and mystical city of Tzfat in northern Israel. In August 2022, I started my journey in the Jewish nonprofit world with Livnot U’Lehibanot—Hebrew for “To Build and To Be Built.” Livnot has been operating in Israel since 1980, connecting young adults to their heritage, Jewish identity, and community through immersive volunteer and educational programs.
The organization brings participants from around the world to work alongside Israelis renovating homes, schools, and community centers, while also offering discussion-based Jewish learning and a traditional Shabbat experience in Tzfat. Whether hiking through Galilee Mountain trails or Golan Heights, hosting soldiers for Shabbat, or facilitating conversations about Jewish values, Livnot believes in building the land and the self—simultaneously.
Working at Livnot has equipped me with invaluable skills that I now bring to my work in South Bend—such as program development, Jewish education, and community engagement. It also affirmed for me something I now see as a deeper calling—strengthening the bond between the Jewish diaspora and the land and people of Israel.
As I step into the role once held by Bob Feferman—whose work I deeply admire—I know I have big shoes to fill. Bob provided this community with essential insight and leadership in community relations, including Israel advocacy, interfaith outreach, and the fight against antisemitism. I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry that mission forward. Through our Israel Desk, I will continue offering the missing context —enriching the conversation around Israel in our community. While war has dominated the news over the past two years, I also hope to highlight the inspiring stories emerging from Israeli society—of innovation, creativity, and meaningful personal connections.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, playing soccer, and spending time with my wonderful wife and our young children. It’s a real blessing to now be raising our family close to my parents, surrounded by a warm Jewish community.
If you have ideas for local programming or Israel-related content you’d like to see, please send me an email at jordan@thejewishfed.org. I look forward to working together to continue building a vibrant Jewish community here in South Bend.
